Smashing idea

I seem to have not done much on this blog for ages.

Joining a Smashed group on Facebook has made me want to post again, and yes my cinch came
 out to play.

Take a piece of card and fold it in half, cut of the corner.
I used my envelope maker to get my corner straight, it's done on the folded edge, but you could just measure the same distance along the top and down the fold to get a perfect corner.

I then cover my page with paper, so it looks pretty.
Take your cut off corner, and simply add this to the oppersite corner from where you cut it off.
The fold should be at the bottom not on the side.
You can either add glue it all over the inside of the triangle and add it, or just put a thin line of glue at the bottom left of your page back and front, this turns the cut off corner into a tiny pocket.
It is up to you.
This means 2 of your page sides are now closed.

Punch holes on the side oppersite your fold.
Add something to bind it together, I used my spirals.
I then add ribbon, but have not shown this.

You can make this with any size paper.

Easy right.

What my kids did.

This is a very quick mini my kids made.

Not posted much for ages as have been busy.

It's just sealed envelopes cut in half and cinched.

Easy or what.

Pocket Page. Mini Book.

I was using some 6" by 12" double sides paper,

Which I had scored at 2", 6" and 10"
Then at 5 1/2".

I had folded the 1/2" up to make so it made a pretty border.
I had folded the side outside bits, but had left it like this on the table.

I had left it on the side when my crafty little daughter who was watching me, decided to fold all the end corners down to be helpful as she thought I was making an envelope.

Not wanting to waste what looked pretty good.

I added glue to the corners and glued it down.

It was still flapping so I added a tiny dot of glue in the bottom at the fold, cinched the holes, and added glue to the bottom inside bottom, to turn it into a pocket.

Also realised if I had not glued it could have just folded it the other way round to make great pages in a book.

Think I owe someone a treat.

Tags will be 3 1/2" by 6" for inside pocket.
3 1/2" by 4 1/2" for the outside.

And I made 6 pockets from 3 double sided sheets.

Tuck it in Book.

Remember the Napkin book.
While I was in bed last night I had a brain wave.
The gesso covers would be great as part of the project.

So I just punched them and decorated
to make my book .

So here goes on how to make the pages.

Take a piece of scrapbook paper.

Cut it down to 24cm by 24 cm.

Fold it in half , to make a triangle.
Line the folded edge up on your score board.
Now score at 11cm.
Flip the triangle over and repeat at 11cm.

In inches it's slightly smaller.
9" by 9" for the Square.
score at 4 1/2" from the edge.

Unfold the paper then refold the sides
you scored in,
then fold in half at the centre line.
Make your binding holes on this fold.
Just cut the centre fold of your design
before you make the holes
 to make two pockets.

I made 8 pockets out of 4 sheets of scrapbook paper.

The tags inside the pockets
are made by
taking a piece of card and cutting it at
21cm by 11.75cm.
Score at 14cm and fold.
Cut a  piece of card 6cm by 11cm for matting.

or
 9 inches by 4 1/4.
Score at 6".
2 3/4" by 3 3/4" for the mat.

You can change the mat size to what ever you have to hand, mine were the off cuts
of the scrapbook paper.
So it matches the design.
Waste not want not..

These fit inside the pockets.

I also had some left over scraps of card,
these were just fold and matted once more.
Then tucked in to bottom fold of the pocket.

Another Boy Mini.

Someone emailed and asked how I can make these using any sized cards.
Or just fold a piece of card you like in half.

If you look at the page it has the fold on the left.
I add glue to the bottom inside where the B of Baby is on the photo.
You can seal the edge I cinched as well but I can't see the point, but if you were using Rings it may be an idea.

Then I just bind them all together and decorate.

I don't plan what I will put on the inside pages.

I tend to start with my cover and get a topper, then gather a few bits of card that match, in this case it was blue for a boy, I always find a bit of foiled card lifts the design.

Then I just make mats and layers for photo's.

Canvas Board for thick book covers.

This is not the right size but it's the same make.
I got some that was 12cm by 17cm.
And it's Hardboard, but best of all....
I can cinch it.
You need to wiggle it a bit to punch but it does go through and won't break the punch.

I did make 3 books but gone now, I used it as covers for my smash books,
Cost was £1.99 from "the works" who always seem to have a sale on.

Have another pack left so think I will make another one just so I can take a photo and post it tomorrow to show and tell.

Travel Smash Book Mini Album

This is my version of a smash book.
I just stuck all the bits of card and envelopes I could find together in piles.
The envelopes were too wide so I used the card as a guide and folded and glued the bottoms, leaving the flap to open.
I cut some sections of Cardstock and folded in half and glued on as tabs.

Journal Pocket.

Cut a piece of Patterned Paper (120gsm) 7" by 12"
Score at 31/2"  and 8".
Turn and score at 1/2" and 6 1/2"

Fold the 1/2" score margin inwards to form a border at the top and bottom
To make the base of your Journal Pocket.

Cut a section of A4 card in A6.
You will get for 4 from each A4.
These will be pages in the journal section.

From the remaining Pattern paper
Cut to 5" by 6" pieces of paper.
Score one piece at 3 1/2".
Fold making it  6 by 3 1/2 "
This is the left hand side pocket in the photo.
With the folded edge at the fold of the larger paper,
add glue to the 1 1/2" section.
Add glue to the patterned 1/2" Border on the base, top and bottom and
place onto to form a pocket that opens at the side.
Add your pages and punch your holes.

Score the remaining piece of 3 3/4"
Fold making it 6" by 3 3/4".
Cut a piece of cardstock 6" by 4".
Add glue to the Patterned side on the 1 3/4" section.
Then slide the cardstock side under the 1/2" border.
Make sure the fold faces the edge of you paper.
Add Glue to the border and close.
This forms the pocket on the right hand side of the picture.
Which can have a tag added from the folded edge
and also from the outer edge.
The folded book measures 6" by 4 1/2".

Martha Stewart Edges Scrapbook.

I had an idea on using my daisy punch.

I used a 12 by 12 sheet
and lined it up the spot of the daisy.

Once I had punched 2 two daisys
I measured to see what size pages I would get.
I was lucky it was 5".
 I scored at 5" and 10" then cut a tab 1/2" extra.
Making  a Sheet that was 10 1/2 by 12".
I finished punching the first side.
Folded and glued the tab down to make a pocket page.
Then flipped it over and punched
the other side to match.

You can see where I have punched my holes
with the cinch, I scores at 4 1/2" from the daisy edge.

The paper was only 120gsm so I could punch through
two layers together.
Making sure I matched the design.

I have added the 1 1/2" off cut to make a belly band,
Also adding a flower to cover the join.
Then white tags inside the pockets
were cut from A4 Cardstock.
I cut 5" by 11". Which I then cut at 4".
So now by 2 tags .
5" by 4"
5" by 7".
Check to see if they fit,
You may need to cut a sliver of so it fits in the pocket.
I chomped the corners, and added a tab.

I made 4 more as you can see in my cinched project.
Now I just need to finish decorating it.

How to centre your cinch.

How I centre my projects.

This project is for my swap with Jane.
She wanted A5 size so it made sense to just score
an fold an A4 in half.
I have scored the corners to add an element of design to it,
and will chomp them later too.
Fold it in half, stick the bottom and I have my pocket page..
 Easy so far.

Pull out the ruler and measure your project.
Mine is 8 1/4"

You can see the scale is marked so it's easy to see.
We need to half this 4 1/8"
Can you see the line between the 6 and the 7 hole?
I lined an edge up with this and slid my ruler in until the 4 1/8" mark lined up with this.
Now when I punch my project I will end up with an even number of holes.

I decided I wanted 6 holes so this means I pull out the pegs in the center in pairs.
6 and 7
5 and 8
4 and 9.

For uneven number of holes,

Line up to the 9 1/16 mark.
Pull pegs
6
5 and 7
4 and 8
3 and 9.

My big cheat.

Sometimes I cheat.
Yes why didn't you expect this.
If you hate to read measurements this is for you.

Take a scrap of paper, the junk mail through the door works fine,
and cut it too the same size as you project.
Width doesn't matter we just need it the same size as where you want you holes punched.
Fold it in half, hold it against your project and this will show you the centre of your project.
Now use this scrap to line up the cinch, it means you can do a test punch before you chance your work of art.
But the end up to the measure and just slide it in till the folded edge is at the centre mark.

Pull out the pegs for the holes you don't want to punch.
Remember to either use the centre mark for even holes
or the 9 1/16" for odd holes.
Punch and check the holes work by holding it against the project.

Your going to tell me what if my project is too small
to butt it up to the measure.

 Well this works for me.
The folded edge is lined up with the centre mark.
Now just pull your measure out until you can see one of the inch marks, I used the 2" one.
Pull the pegs, punch your test open it up and check the holes work on your project.
Now when you punch the page just line it up with the same inch line.

My Guy Christmas Album

This is my Christmas "My Guy" Album
I saw the design from Laura at The Paper Trail.
Her work is amazing.

All the pages open up and have lots of space to add pictures, DD2 made me add a few of her Foam Stickers from the 99p Store.

Each page back gets a pocket at the bottom that looks like the trousers with a belt.
Added is a tag with a folded top to make a shirt.
The stud was DD2's idea again.
I thought the pink snow flakes looked like a pair of PJ's but someone else said looks like a lady.
I just love this sweater one, with it's ribbon tie, the base card is a lovely green but you can't see it here.
Yes I used red velvet cardstock,
never again do you know do much it shows any glue you smudge.
Last one.
This is the back page, I Cinched it...
and added some ribbons to my binding.

All the pages are made by the same method as my other books, you just add the jacket sides in to make it like a gatefold.

Hallow Mini Album Long with pockets

This is one that I made a few weeks ago from paper included in a swap.

It measures 8 1/2" by 4 1/2"
Or 21cm by 11cm ish..

All I did was folded A4 cardstock in half and folded about 3" up to make a pocket
which I glued at the edge.
I had loads of sticker edges and used these for decoration, as well as the small Halloween tags that came as a 12 by 12 sheet of cardstock.

But must admit some pages are smaller as I took any paper I had to hand and just folded it too make pages.

Extra pieces were cut for tags

The Scalloped Green and black paper was one I loved but couldn't think how to use it.
So I scored it at 4" 6" and 8"
Turned and scored it at 8"

This then folded into a pocket page.
Cropped the corners...
And yes I "Cinched it all together"

Added some Fiber and a Tiny Pumpkin from Janice.

Acetate cover mini.

This little mini was from an idea I saw on another blog. Marion at "A piece of crafts" on her Ustream.

Too make this you need:
1 Piece of 12 by 12 Scrapbook Paper
2 Sheets A4 White Card
1 Sheet Acetate. Mine had flowers on.

I only had to use one sheet of scrapbook paper,
which I got in a swap from Ukscrappers.

 Pocket Page.....
You cut the paper at 7" tall and 6 3/4" wide.
Score the paper at 3 3/8"  or just fold it in half...
Next score at 5" and fold at the bottom 2" to make a flap, you can have this on the inside or the outside.
Mine is on the inside, the bit in the second photo with the leaf and the branch on.
I glued just the edge to make a pocket.

Inside page 2...
There is a piece of scrapbook paper left,
that is 12" by 5" in length.
I cut this at 6 1/2" scored it at 3 1/4". Fold.
This is the bit you can see between my fingers..

The bit of card stock left is 5" by 5 1/2".
Yes you guessed I cut this too.
5" by 3 1/2" it makes you another page you can add into the album

Out of the last large piece of scrapbook paper that remains. It measures 5 1/4" by 7"

You can either make a folded page by cutting it at
5" by 6 3/4" and folding it in half.
Or cut two more 3 1/2" by  5".

I always use my off-cuts to decorate with.
It's amazing what a tiny strip of 1/4"
scrapbook paper adds to a page.

White Pocket...
I took a piece of A4 card stock in White Hammered.
and cut it at the 6 3/4" mark.
This was scored once more at the 5" mark and folded in half  and glued to make a deeper pocket.
Make 2...

Inside page 1...
The bit I had left was with was just under 5" wide, so I cut it at 6 1/2" and just scored it at 3 1/4".
This is the inside page on the second photo.
Just to the outside of my fingers.
It has the stub book corners.

I also cut the last piece of card stock into pages too, they are just under 5" by 3 1/4.

Last I cut some Acetate covers.
These measure 5" tall by 3 1/2" wide.

Once you have made all your pages.
Use the cinch to cut all your holes,
Mine has 9 holes but you can use as many as you like.

Mine is  layered like this, with each open.

Pocket Page..
Inside Page 1..
Inside Page 2..

Fold closed. To make my center..

So my final layers are..

An Acetate cover.
A white page.
A scrapbook page.
A White Pocket.
The Folded Pocket Centre.
A White Pocket.
A scrapbook page.
A white page
An Acetate Cover.

Then I just Cinched it all together.

I love Acetate for covers because I can just add a hole and lace the ribbon through it.
Well now I've made this one I should be able to read this an remeber next time...

Stamp storage. Mini style...

Ok, now this is my idea, suddenly reallised how I could store and use up some of the cardboard boxes that I seem to collect by the handful.

I cut open a Coco-Pop Box, and made an envelope form it. I added 1/2 " to the width of my stamps, to make a nice fit, then added about 1" for each flap of the envelope.

I also added an extra inch to the depth of the envelope so I could cinch some holes, which I am going to add my binding to, I want to use to rings that open and close so I can add more envelopes as I make them.

Here's the sealed envelope.
With my stamp sheet inside.
I've left the outside blank but intend too label it with what is inside, also thought I could stamp images when I take them out to use next time.

Finished Easy scrapbook..part 2

I decorated the front of the one I showed you yesterday, and along side is one I made with more binder holes.

I really want to make a bigger one next, as I have some baby bits I want to make into a scrapbook.
I have been trying to use up the bits in my bit box.
Once a month I sort them into colours and try to use up all the tiny bits to make cards or scrapbooks.
Otherwise I end up with a massive box on the table full of odds and ends.

Easy Scrapbook or Notebook..

Ok, bad picture but you can see my basic design.

I take A4 paper or thin card for the inside and cut it into A6 size.
So I get four sheets from each original sheet.
I then take an A5 card and just fold it in half to make my covers. But you could just cut a A4 in half.
I punch my insides with the cinch.

Making the cover into a pocket.
Take the folded A5 card and add glue in a thin line at the bottom, punch a half circle at the top of the card going through both layers.
Then punch holes in the side that doesn't have the fold with the cinch.
This way you don't need to add glue and once bound it will form the pocket.

Once the book has been cinched, I add an insert that is 1cm thinner and shorter that the cover size, this way it slides inside easily.

I must admit I have been letting the kids use these as notebooks. So far this week we have made 6.
They have used what ever odds and ends they could find to decorate the covers, both back and front, as with kids more is always more...

My Daughter has even made one for the Teacher, who loved it.

What an you do with Toilet Rolls? Make a Mini Scrapbook...

What would you do with a load of these?
Well I made one of these....
First you ink all the edges, and then you measure the size of the tube.
Mine was 11cm by 7.5cm.
So my paper was
10.5cm by 7cm.
This gave me a bit of the inked edge showing.
This is the pink version I made at the same time.
You will need to measure each tube as they all seem to differ in size.
Then I just punched the edge with 2 holes,
I used my cinch but the kids hole punch is easier as the holes are always the same distance apart.
I added some fibres to use as binding.
Also a set of Paris cardstock stickers.
I got them in a swap that arrived this morning.
It's a great kids project as they can just paint the tubes, and add decorations.
Mine have tags inside, I made them the same size as the tubes, but some needed to be trimmed to fit, the corners are the cloud on the Chomper.

Baby it's a cinch..

Ok so I finished my book.
I covered some card in pretty paper and cinched the centre fold.
it really looks like a book when it stands up as it has a hard spine but I made it too thick, and the wire 3/4" I used was too small would have been better to use the 1 1/4" as it would have hung down in a much better way.

You can see that I have marked the centre and punched as in my last post but I scored it at 1/2" from the fold on both sided so it's too wide, but when you hold it and look it seems OK.
Just me knowing I did it wrong, so I will always see it as not right.
The pages are made by scoring an A4 page at 14cm and 28cm.
I then folded it in half and tucked the 1.5cm inside,
to make myself a pocket,
but the bottom  will need sticking down either now,
or just add some glue afterward to seal it.
I didn't stick it down just punched at this edge,
which means 3 layers of card, in all got punched.
So the folded edge is on the outside
and the open edge is at the centre.
The pages are held closed by the wire.

But when it lies flat it looks great.
